About The Event

This presentation will include an overview of the different types of social deficits that children may demonstrate, a summary of the recent research on social skills training, and a description of best practice guidelines for the provision of social support. In addition to a discussion on best practices, parents will also obtain information about community-based social skills groups/programs and resources for supporting the social development of children at home.

Please Note: This presentation will NOT include a discussion of diagnostic criteria or a lengthy description of assessment procedures. Some foundational understanding of developmental challenges that are associated with social skills weaknesses is encouraged (e.g., ADHD, ASD, NVLD, Anxiety).

About the Presenter: Carolyn Kuehnel, Ph.D., NCSP is a licensed psychologist with a clinical background in school psychology and clinical neuropsychology. She has spent the past six years providing support to over 600 children, families, and adolescents in Massachusetts, with a special interest in assisting children who are struggling to develop peer relationships. Dr. Kuehnel firmly believes in parent-assisted interventions to promote skill development and has focused much of her recent clinical work on parent consultation.
