Get Involved: Upcoming Elections and Volunteer Opportunities at Our April Meeting

Our community thrives when members step up and take active roles. This April, we have an important event that offers a chance to shape the future of our group. On Thursday, April 9, 2026, during our regular monthly meeting, we will hold elections for board positions. If you have ever thought about making a difference but felt unsure about committing to a board role, there are also volunteer opportunities available that require less time but still make a meaningful impact.

What to Expect at the April 9 Meeting

The meeting will begin promptly at 7:00 PM in the Freeman-Kennedy library. After a brief welcome and open discussion, we will move into the election portion of the agenda. Candidates will have the opportunity to introduce themselves and share their vision for the group. Following this, members will cast their votes.

Here are the positions up for election:

  • Co-Chair (2)

  • Chair of Technology

  • Chair of Marketing

  • Chair of Operations

  • Chair of Finance

  • Secretary

  • Fundraising & Volunteer Coordinator

  • Board Member

Descriptions for each position can be found here. Even if you are not running for a position, attending the meeting to vote is a powerful way to support your community.

How to Get Involved Without Joining the Board

    • Promoting event and monitoring ticket sales

    • Determine decorating theme and coordinate group on costumes

    • Set up SEPAC tent area

    • Concessions table

    • Hosting a trunk

    • Taking down SEPAC tent area

  • iCare (Nov/Dec/Jan/Feb)

    • Scheduling - updating iCare calendar for teachers to sign up, setting up sign-up genius for volunteer readers, adding volunteers to iCare calendar invites

    • Training session, emailing volunteers with instructions

    • Rolling forward and distributing feedback forms

    • Volunteer reader

  • Immersion program (Mar)

    • Coordination with vendor

    • Coordination with school principals and director of student services

  • Norfolk Community day (June)

    • Set up SEPAC tent area

    • Attending to the tent area for 1.5-2 hour blocks

    • Take down SEPAC tent area

  • Coordinate a webinar, event session, or fundraiser

  • Attend caregiver socials - coffee hours, evening socials

  • Make website updates/social media posts about Norfolk SEPAC events or other local events our community would be interested in

Volunteering in these roles helps the board and strengthens the community without requiring a long-term commitment. It also provides a chance to meet new people and develop new skills.
